Prof. Dr. Engku Rabiah is an Honorary Professor at IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance and serves at various key Shariah advisory bodies, including the Central Bank of Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia and the Employee’s Provident Fund. She has decades of expertise in Islamic finance, regulation, and Shariah governance.

Central Bank of Malaysia (Bank Negara Malaysia , BNM) is a statutory body which started operations in 1959 and governed by the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009. The role of BNM is to promote monetary and financial stability, in order to provide a conducive environment for the sustainable growth of the Malaysian economy.

This presentation explores digital assets through the lens of Islamic finance, examining how emerging instruments such as stablecoins, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), tokenised deposits, tokenised sukuk, and real world assets can align with Islamic finance principles. It also discusses key Shariah and policy considerations as well as innovation opportunities.
